Profile

Favourite run:
Victoria: Thetis Lake; Boulder: Switzerland trail; Europe: Jungfrau
About Me:
A "reformed" triathlete-I forgot my bike and bathing suit on a trip and quite enjoyed just flying with a pair of running shoes. My new hobby is mountain running, maybe because I am not quite fast enough at flat running, bu more likely because I just love being outside.
I love finding a secret trail, or path on an urban run, but would rather be surrounded by them in a mountain setting...

Oxygen is over-rated (stolen title from Incline Club)

This should be the motto of the Mount Evans Ascent, which also happens to be 'America's Highest Road Race'. Starting at Echo Lake, just outside of Idaho Springs, Colorado at 10,600 feet (3,230m) , the course climbs for 14.5 miles (23.3 km) up North America's highest paved road. The course takes you through montane, subalpine, and alpine environments to the summit of Mt. Evans at 14,264 ft (4,348m). It is a spectacular venue, with many memorable four-legged spectators, such as Bighorn Sheep, Marm… Continue

Emails, packing, sunnies and miles

Trying to pack everything up here. That means closing some accounts, returning some stuff, training a new staff member for 5430 Sports, sending out masses of emails and getting in some runs on my favourite Boulder trails. Yesterday was: 90 min AM trying to be as hilly as possible; PM 45 min up the Canyon Today: AM: 20 min warm up, then (3min/2EZ; 2hard/2EZ, 1minhard/1EZ)*2, 15 min EZ legs loosened up as I went PM: 42 min with Matt, felt a bit light headed--it was SUPER hot I also met with the… Continue

14er and some wildlife

Yesterday was a strange day.

I am still exhausted after the weekend. Putting on those races takes a lot of energy and some long days, but more than anything, my weak-ass runners body struggles with 4 days of heavy lifting. I have just been feeling off. After telling Barry that I am retu… Continue

Houdini

Yes, so I pulled a disappearing act, magical wasn't it? A bit of travel to Vancouver for World Tri Champs: great run through Stanley, over the bridge, up the Capilano river, follwed by Grind...good long run. Last week was a bit mental with me being the operations manager for my first triathlon, the 5430 Sprint triathlon, with 1,300 participants. It took place on Sunday and went well. Highlight runs for the week were a great run on Switzerland trail and a killer treadmill session. This saturday… Continue

Hey Adam, I hope you're well. Sorry for being incommunicado. Though, the trend will likely continue. I'm taking off for Guatemala tomorrow and get back from Costa Rica on the 24th of June. Life has been crazy since getting back from Boston. The race was okay. Not pleased with the finish on paper, but my legs weren't happy with me early on so it was a push. Next up is death race. I've never done it solo. Baby steps to get there. This year my friend and I are splitting it, so I have 1, 2 & 3 to look forward to. I've done each of them and have a decent idea what I'm getting myself into, but my biggest concern is the 7 weeks in Central America. I picked up a skipping rope and dyna bands to ensure that no matter how unsafe it feels as a single female travelling, I'll be able to maintain strength. I've been advised against running alone, but we'll see how long that lasts. Sorry for the exceptionally long rambling note. Do you have racing plans for the summer? I moved to Cook street last week, so I'll likely see you out training sometime when I'm back. Take care!

hah, the one on flotrack was made up at the spur of a moment; however, generally the track_star1500 goes with my email address, which i tend to use. And on PIH it's similar but with Dr. 1500TS. I swear that is it though! :P

THanks, never could resist a roll in the mud. Us triathletes are notorious wimps when it comes to dirt, but every once in a while .. . .

The door is always open up here whenever you are looking for a new adventure. Mtn race pretty much every weekend in the summer. I am going to copy Kikkan's blog post onto mine as she says it better than I can.

Ha- Thanks for the sock award...too funny! My weekend adventure continued yesterday with a very 'muddy' ski at Nipika Mountain Resort (just North of Radium)...The 2hr ski consisted more of a 3/4 ski + 1/4 run as the snow was quickly dissapearing...We even stumbled on a very fresh kill site that showed signs of a big bad cougar in the area. Check out the pics...

Thanks Adam, I will pass it on to Kikkan. I was thinking I should post the news about her experience on the site. It's been amazing how many endurance athletes have had similar experiences. Mostly from the long travel athletes endure to do their thing. Along with dehydration and the birth control risk for women.
